The World of Atlantica

Okay so I just started playing this rockin’ new MMORPG game called Atlantica Online. It’s another MMO by the same people who provided the game Luminary: Rise of the Goonzu also if you have heard of it before. The company is known as NDOORS.

Let me start off by saying that this game is fantastic so far, I mean the graphics are sweet, the music sounds great, and the gameplay is tight! But I guess I have to go into detail here, so here it goes:

Graphics

The graphics here look pretty in here, the armors show some nice detail in them too. The monsters look good so far but the towns are kind of plain but you can access the Town menu and use the Bank, Market etc.. Did I also tell you that this game uses a real part of the world as it’s map? That’s right, it uses the parts of the world to make up it’s map. So far I’ve only been in Northeast Asia, but they’re going to add Southeast Asia and Indonesia, Europe and Northern Africa. I think the customization in Atlantica is alright, but not as good as it could be. There are only 6 hairstyles, 3 hair colors, 4 different faces, and 2 sets of default clothing. I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice selection, but for males, everyone mostly chooses that 1 cool hairstyle which is Hairstyle D which is shown in the pictures below.

Side View and  Front View of Hairstyle D

Looks pretty cool right? Heh, I chose this one myself

Okay so I guess I’ll get off customization now, and onto the intro. The intro screen is a cool battle sequence and the music is good, but I think the video of the battle gets my computer screen lagging, not too much, but I definitely feel it.

Sound

Some fantastic tracks in this game, love the different map’s BGM it’s peaceful and you get new music for every different place you go to. The battle music just plain out rocks. The music actually makes me want to play and it’s not so repetitive to me as a certain game’s music is…(Maple Story). The opening log in screen has to be my favorite one so far in this game, it’s just so, I don’t know, a good track to listen to.

Performance

Atlantica has one major issue in it: Lag. Everywhere you go, there will at least be some lag to follow most of the time. Oh yeah and there’s also an option in Settings, where you can simplify the avatars around you including people and monsters. It helps, but doesn’t look as cool.

Community

The community is friendly and with the Peer option in the chatbox, you can talk to the whole server I think. But it really does help and makes out community that much friendlier. When you create a character, you have to add a greeting to him/her which means everytime you log on, your greeting will show to everyone on the map you’re on. Pretty cool I must say.

Gameplay

Okay so onto the most important part of a game, the gameplay. Atlantica Online follows a strategic turn-based fighting system that works quite well. You get to make a main character picking out of the seven main weapons: Swords, Staffs, Spears, Axes, Guns, Bows, and hell, even Cannons. Each weapon has it’s own special features and your main is also what you look like, so choose well! One of the unique features of this game is that you can hire mercenaries that will fight for you. Each class has it’s own special skills and attributes so have to pick out you’re team strategically. You can have a total of 9 mercenaries to command and use. People may be intimidated by this battle system, but I assure you, it is very fun and fast-paced. Here’s a picture of what the battles look like.

When you defeat an enemy squad, their corpses will just lie there, so it’s your job to click on them and get their remains. Atlantica has this random box feature as well. You get this Equipment box, right click it, and then it’s all chance as to what equip you get. At first it was cool, but then I was like, “man I’m getting so much useless crap.” I wish that once you get one of these boxes, they would let you choose the equip you want.

The game also has an Auto-Run feature. It’s pretty damn convenient as you can choose a location, quest, or monster, and the auto-run will bring you there without you having to do anything. So if you forget who or where to go to, use this feature!

Overall

A fantastic game, it’s fun and I think I’ll be playing for a while. Maybe I’ll get to level 100 and raise a Spartan army of mercenaries…

Well thank you all for reading my review on this game, and if you want to join in on the fun, here is the link to the game site.
